The Ease Of Getting Free Television Central Arkansas

By Betty Gibson

More people are cutting the proverbial cord and getting rid of cable TV. They no longer see the wisdom in paying for hundreds of channels they do not watch. When you want to get rid of your own cable bill, you might wonder what kinds of channels you could get over-the-air. When it comes to getting free television central Arkansas residents like you might be surprised how easy it is.

Your first action might involve buying a suitable antenna to go on your TV. You can find them at most big box retailers and home improvement stores. They range in cost from very affordable to higher priced. Still, once they are connected to the TV, they scan the airwaves and determine what channels your set is going to pick up.

So that it can find OTA channels, the TV must be put on a setting that is something different than the one used for cable. It may simply say TV or OTA on the screen. You can then use the menu to start a channel search. This search might take several minutes or sometimes up to a half hour. It determines what ones will come in clearly and what ones will be too fuzzy to broadcast.

After the set finishes the search, you will know what channels your set is going to receive clearly. You can even flip through them to find out what ones you would like to watch. All of them will come at no cost to you and be available all day long. It is not like in the old day when TVs only picked up one or two channels and were only on the air certain times of the day.

One of the first channels that will probably come in is the local public broadcasting station or PBS. This station is the one that airs primarily education and children's programs. The programs start as early as 5:00 in the morning and commence until around midnight before it goes off the air for the day. It will air a newscast at some point in the day as well.

Other channels you might receive include the major non-cable networks. These channels often air programs that range from daytime soap operas and cop dramas to game shows and talk shows. During the evening, they run sitcom and dramatic TV series. They also typically have their own newscasts that air every night.

The channels are also home to your local broadcasting networks. Your local news will air on these stations typically at 6:00 and 10:00 every night. Depending on what is going on in your area, the local networks might break into regular broadcasting and air local specials. They come at no charge to you and are usually able to be picked up by even the simplest of OTA antennas.

When you question why your cable bill is so high, it might be time for you to think about switching to free television that is broadcast in the central part of the state. Picking up the various channels is not difficult. You can typically get dozens of channels with just a simple and inexpensive antenna. Once the antenna is hooked up to your TV, you may then conduct a channel search and discover new channels you were not even aware that existed in your part of the state.
